The Underground Toy Society and the Annual Toy Drive by Jessica D. Adams - IHIBRP 5-Star Book Review

Charming Characters Teach Kids Faith, Hope, & Charity!

Overview: After mistakenly burrowing into a toy store and finding a bin of newly donated toys, Murry Mole and the Underground Toy Society are determined to find homes for all the forgotten toys in time for Christmas.

Jessica D. Adams presents a great feel-good story for kids in this second illustrated book of her themed children’s book series, The Underground Toy Society. In this chapter, Murry the Mole takes a lucky wrong turn and leads the members of the Underground Toy Society into a toy store—A wondrous place where shiny new toys, like dollies, teddy bears, and stuffed animals, line the shelves in droves. In a corner of the toy store, the group of friends notice a big box of new toys—all boxed and tagged—that are waiting to be donated to children. The Underground Toy Society loves the idea of donating toys to kids, but they worry that their collection of old, unwanted toys may not be acceptable for giving without the proper packaging. Through determination and hard work, they set about finding a way that their used toys can be a part of such a worthy cause.

Through simple illustrations and wording, Adams connects kids to the ideas of faith, hope, and charity as she puts her charming characters on a mission to unite used toys with children in need. This enchanting adventure is easy to read and the adventure is fun follow as the author’s characters give kids a short and simple lesson about how and why they might want to make a valuable contribution to other deserving kids either by donating their own gently used toys to charity or holding their own used toy drive.

The illustrations in this tale are quite simple and the text is easy for older kids to read on their own. The lessons in this short story present a great opportunity for parents to discuss the concepts of charity and need with their children. I highly recommend “The Underground Toy Society and the Annual Toy Drive” for children, ages 3 and up.

Congratulations to the author on this award-winning story! This novel will be permanently featured on my website at AuthorJBRichards.com under IHIBRP 5 Star Recommended Reads!
