"Adventure in Malasorte Castle (Guardians of Val De Monio Book 1)" by Julia E. Clements -

A Trip To Italy Produces A Wild & Charming Fantasy Tale!

Overview: Twelve-year-old Izzy is excited to be spending the summer holidays in Italy with her grandmother. There, she hears spine-tingling tales of the evil spirits that once infested Val De Monio and the Guardians who did battle with them. But when Gran tells her about the Mazzapeghoul, a wicked demon, still inhabiting Malasorte Castle, Izzy begins to doubt her stories... At least until she accepts a dare to spend a night at the cursed location.

Julia E. Clements crafts a highly imaginative, page-turning read in “Adventure in Malasorte Castle” as she blends reality with just the right amounts of fantasy, adventure, horror, suspense, and foreshadowing to come up with THE perfect children’s story. Immensely creative and populated by fantastic, magical creatures, “Adventure in Malasorte Castle” is a wonderful children’s tale that the kiddies will want to read—or have read to them—over and over again.

Izzy is a charming, witty, adventurous, and tireless main character, drawing readers into her world with many of the same issues kids deal with in today’s world, particularly the impending separation of parents, peer pressure, and... well, growing up. At twelve-years-old, she is a character most children will relate to. She is stuck between childhood and puberty, acting much as an adult would in certain situations while very much maintaining her bond to her childhood in others. Placed in a situation where she is in unfamiliar surroundings—in a foreign country with only her Grandmother and new friends to help guide her through the challenges of her young life, Izzy’s fantastic adventure reflects her fears about her current home situation yet points her in the right direction for her future.

“Adventure in Malasorte Castle” is one fairytale that should be on everyone’s gift-giving list. Clements pens a charming, intuitive, and adventurous children’s story that parents can actually discuss with their kids. It teaches valuable lessons about responsibility, family, friendship, and growing up.

I highly recommend this chapter book for ages 6 and up. Of course, parents may need to assist younger children in this age range with their reading, but serving up this tale to a single child or multiples at story time will be well worth it.

Congratulations to the author on this award-winning story! This novel will be permanently featured on my website at AuthorJBRichards.com under IHIBRP 5 Star Recommended Reads!
