A Colorful, Engaging, & Fast-Paced Space Opera!
Overview: When a previously unknown alien race starts attacking the human worlds, Aterion, a ruthless corporation bent on intergalactic domination, might be the only military power strong enough to counter the alien threat.
In “Spark of Imagination”, Author Tony Lindblom has created an inter-galactic universe filled with action, adventure, and living world’s beyond imagination. The constructs of his planetary societies are well thought out and his plotline is quite believable.
Colorful and engaging characters populate this fast-paced Sci-Fi space opera, and readers will find it easy to relate to the ideas and issues that drive them toward their individual goals. Both heroes and villains are given equal consideration, presenting a story that is both understandable and enjoyable while both the tension and urgency of their individual missions serve well to drive this epic forward.
Lindblom’s story does successfully captures the imagination, however, the author’s writing skills are a bit rough. Readers will experience difficulty and confusion in two main areas; adjusting to the random switches between past and present tense, along with a number of grammatical modifications that the author has employed in this read.
Without reason or warning, Lindblom often fluctuates between past-tense and present-tense in his chapter narratives. A highly unconventional writing-style is also utilized whereby each sentence of a character’s dialogue is irregularly segmented and spaced out on individual lines instead of adhering to the more traditional writing methodology of compacting verbiage into complete paragraphs. Ultimately, there exists no direct indication of who’s doing the talking, or which character is saying what, causing a certain amount of unclarity and confusion for the reader. Additionally, characters’ self-thoughts are incorrectly indicated by a nearly imperceptible change in quotation marks with the author using apostrophes to encapsulate a phrase, rather than the more customary and universal writing method of employing italics. I’ve rated this read accordingly and suggest to the author that this work would have greatly benefited from the services of a professional editor.
For those unbothered by grammatical issues, “Spark of Imagination” is a fast ride into the unknown. The story itself will take you on a fascinating adventure with characters you may never forget. With graphic violence, adult situations, and harsh language appropriate to a young adult read, I recommend this novel for ages 17 and up.
