“Starfall (The Starfall Chronicles Book 1)” by R.M. Anderson - IHIBRP 4-Star Book Review

A Colorful, Charming, & Romantic Fairytale!

Overview: Radianne Timblebrooke has grown bored with her life and aches for adventure. She finds it in the guise of a young fallen star, named Blink, who is depending on Radianne’s promise to return him to his home in the sky.

R.M. Anderson pens a charming and delightful fairytale in her coming-of-age fantasy adventure, “Starfall”. Complete with characters that are highly likable and thoroughly engaging, “Starfall” is a journey complete with unique lands and strange creatures, such as ogres called Snorgs, giant hermit crabs, vampiric mice, and mean blue elephants called Snorgs, to more helpful ones, like Miss Lucia—a giant ladybug, mermaids, and fairies. The author’s imagination shines through in her created creatures: the Floppersnogs—friendly furballs with giant plumes on their heads.

Like most fairytales, “Starfall” imbeds clean romance within its main plotline of adventure and discovery, and as Radianne and Blink’s journey progresses, the experienced and daring Henrick, the Wanderer—a character with a hidden past—adds excitement and action to the story as he vows to keep watch over the young woman and her celestial companion. As the three companions travel through a magical but dangerous world, they not only learn about each other’s pasts, they discover what each truly wants and needs for themselves in the future. Watch for this storyline to pick up dramatically once Thomas enters the picture.

The overall theme of Anderson’s novel is that life, at times, may seem humdrum and boring to anyone—even a mermaid—until something happens to take you away from all you know. But, only then can you have a proper appreciation for your own home and those whom you miss so dearly.

Although it may be too intense for younger children, “Starfall” is a colorful, charming and romantic fairytale that will entertain older children (ages 9 and up), young teens, and their parents. I recommend this coming-of-age read for anyone who loves stories about imaginative creatures in strange lands, forging friendships, overcoming the odds, and going on new adventures.
