“A Guardian From Earth (Rediscovery Book 2)” by Dan Melson - IHIBRP 4-Star Book Review

Vengeance Is The Key In This Sci-Fi Thriller!

In Dan Melson’s sequel to “The Man from Empire”—“A Guardian From Earth”—Graciela Juarez returns home to Earth reunite with her family and take care of business after her initial introduction to ScOsh’s world and family.

For Sci-Fi fans familiar with Dan Melson’s first chapter in the Rediscovery Series, “A Guardian From Earth” provides a deeper understanding of the everyday workings of the Empire and ScOsh’s family. As Graciela is adopted by ScOsh’s father, Osh Scimtar, and learns to become a citizen of the Empire, detailed background information as to his rise to power, as well as the laws and needs of his society, are revealed in much greater depth.

Melson’s plot development and characters are quite distinctive as compared to other Sci-Fi novels. Both provide a fascinating glimpse into the fierce loyalty one can have toward their natural family while developing a new identity, even as pursuits to live an independent life and meet individual goals are simultaneously put to the test. Melson kicks up the plotline when he guides Graciela through her primary training as an adoptee under the direct supervision of ScOsh’s family, then returns her, along with her newfound partner, to the birth-family she left behind on Earth, only to find she has suffered a heartbreaking loss during her absence. Graciela’s plot for vengeance, as she sets up a means for her Earth-family to survive a looming national disaster and at the same time build a commodities market providing dogs to the Empire’s petless society, is nothing short of highly creative and extraordinary—But, what else would one expect from a prodigy of ScOsh?

This story, as are the other novels included in the Rediscovery Series, may be rife with highly-detailed but oftentimes rambling explanations of mathematical formulas, speculations about the future, and technical details that will cause some readers’ heads to spin, but “A Guardian From Earth” is a compelling look at one woman’s journey into a new and fascinating life as she finds vengeance for the beloved family she left behind on Earth—and, perhaps more importantly, marital and financial security for herself.

I strongly recommend “A Guardian From Earth” be read in sequence with Melson’s other novels from the Rediscovery Series. This book should be considered by Sci-Fi fans ages 17 and up.
