A Poignant and Heartbreaking Love Story with Bite!
Having read the first two chapters of the Fallen Cross Pack Series (“Bitter Beginnings” and “Bitter Challenge”), I’ve come to savor this amazing fantasy series written by an author I truly respect. And so, going into the brief tale (only 31 pages long) of a devoted husband forcefully turned werewolf and stripped of his family, it was satisfying to read about the O’Connell’s story from the wife’s perspective. Maggie’s story does not disappoint as we find out just how much pain and agony she and her young daughter, Jessica, have suffered since that fateful day that her husband was stolen away from them one, long year ago.
At the risk of being personal, I’d like to say that Aliya DalRae must be a woman who is deeply passionate and in love with her own significant other, for only a woman in such a state is able to relate to Maggie’s pain and longing at having her beloved soul-mate suddenly and mercilessly stripped from her life. From Maggie’s affirmation of their love, to her sharp denial that Patrick would ever think to leave her alone, to her descent into madness—all the while struggling to reconcile her relationship with her young daughter, the author expresses a full range of human emotion set against a brilliant plotline that is intimately relatable to readers who have suffered the loss of a loved one. I’m certain that after reading “Bitter Loss”, no one who will be able to resist sinking their teeth into “Bitter End”—the fourth and final chapter in the Fallen Cross Pack Series.
