Suspenseful Until The Very End!
A harrowing and troubling murder mystery awaits in Francis Benedict’s “Mayaki’s Doll” as the author weaves together a plotline that continues to build suspense right up until the very end. Benedict guides his main protagonist on an elusive journey as she pieces together the puzzle of her dear friend’s death. Twists and turns are somewhat lacking along the way, but readers are kept guessing in this smoke-and-mirrors plot set up to deceive anyone daring to investigate the matter of Mayaki’s supposed automobile accident. All the while, many lives—including those of orphaned children—are in grave danger and time is of the essence in solving this case.
Although there are some graphic scenes in Benedict’s plotline, as there are with any good murder mystery, the situations are handled tastefully and have meaning within the context of the story. The author presents a logical progression of clues and his characters have adequate back-stories related to their roles. Readers will feel for the protagonist and cheer her on as she searches for answers, will cry with her as she mourns her friend’s death, and will fear for her life as she takes it upon herself to investigate the connection between the owner of a diamond mine and the local orphanage in this unusual who-done-it—even when it’s not that obvious whether the victim is actually dead or not.
