Set 25-years in the future, we meet the characters that will carry us through this unique and highly imaginative series, and gain a new understanding of the circumstances that propelled them into their future roles as heroes and villains.
“Dangerous Times” focuses on Amnur as the main protagonist, uprooting him from his home and family with a prestigious honor to serve the demon king, Nathaniel. But, the young demon mage quickly becomes disillusioned when he learns that life at court is not at all what it seems—Especially when the king intentionally places him in harm's way and in the center of a political bloodbath leading to an all-out war between angels and demons.
Voelske paints a unique picture of the demon world—focusing on their hierarchy—and their age-old conflict with angels. As the two races struggle to live side-by-side, there exist certain factions that will—at any time—seize the opportunity for all-out war. The author imbues Amnur’s character with a keen sense of what’s right and what’s wrong, as well as a strong will and purposeful mindset. Along with a hand-picked choice of allies, including individuals in the king’s own family, Amnur becomes a key central character in this series while developing his skills as a mage, gaining strong friendships and support, and navigating Nathaniel’s treacherous political maze.
“Dangerous Times” is an exciting and riveting prequel for The Skies of Fyir Series. The story makes an excellent standalone read, enticing readers to become involved in the series. I highly recommend this book for fantasy fans interested in the contentious relationship between angels and demons, ages 17 and up.
